Milwaukee-based genomic testing startup GenoPalate Inc. has raised a $1.35 million funding round from investors.
The company, which provides personalized nutrition recommendations based on a DNA analysis, expects to close this latest round of funding later in the week. The funds are to come from committed investors in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Texas.
GenoPalate previously raised a $357,000 equity and debt round in May.
Founded in 2016, GenoPalate has grown to about 900 customers. In June, it moved into an office at Work Lofts on Milwaukee’s East Side. And in August, it relaunched its website with two adjacent product offerings to drive additional recurring revenue.
“We empower people with their genetic information to walk into a store and know which foods are healthier for them, based on their unique genetic makeup,” said Sherry Zhang, Ph.D., founder and chief executive officer of GenoPalate.
GenoPalate last year completed the Milwaukee cohort of startup accelerator gener8tor, which made the lead equity investment in the earlier seed funding round as part of the program.
“Through Sherry’s inspired leadership, GenoPalate has created industry-leading genetics technology that best informs customers on how to manage their diet and health,” said Joe Kirgues, co-founder of gener8tor. “Today’s financing enables the company to execute on its go-to-market strategy and offers GenoPalate the opportunity to be one of the region’s breakout startups.”
