Steve Lyons, a veteran lobbyist and communications specialist who helped the Wisconsin Technology Council, has started a new government affairs firm.

The business, called SJL Government Affairs and Communications, is based in Madison.

He said his work for the Wisconsin Tech Council as a contract lobbyist, and by extension the group’s work with entrepreneurs and startup companies, made him realize it was time for a change.

“If I work with startups, I need to be a startup,” he said.

Lyons previously worked as deputy chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald for eight years and has held various other government and communications roles.
